We've decided to sell our house, and move to the country. Before we can even list the house with a realtor, we need to do some upgrading, cleaning, repairing, and staging.
"Staging" is presenting your home in the very best light, so that it will appeal to the greatest number of buyers. According to homebuying.about.com, "Home staging is about illusions. It's how David Copperfield would sell a house. It's beyond decorating and cleaning. It's about perfecting the art of creating moods. Staging makes your house look bigger, brighter, cleaner, warmer, more loving and, best of all, it makes home buyers want to buy it.Contrary to what you might think, it's about more than preparing the house for sale. Staging is what you do after you've cleaned, decluttered, painted, made minor repairs; it's all about dressing the house for sale."
There are websites and books to guide you through the process, and professional stagers who will do the job for you - for a fee. It should come come as no surprise that we're going to do the staging - and as much of the other work as possible - ourselves.
