high in hope

I've tweaked the office a bit. It's still not quite finished, but here's where we are so far:

new desk chair & pillow
green/cream checks; pillow hand-embroidered on linen
Moved the vintage London map from living room into office.
Also added 2 other hand embroidered pillows. I got all 3 for $16!
Happy colors!
Move the abstract painting to above the armoire.
Macy the 3-legged brat
Guest room across the hall. Not part of the office in any way,
but I love it, and wanted to share. :)

Make big plans; aim high in hope and work...

then Providence moves too

Plan B is progressing nicely. I'm actually starting to enjoy the rhythm of my days, living not according to the clock but by my own tides.

There's also been some movement on the "get the job I'm meant to have" front - just a tiny ripple, but it's a start. As an affirmation of that, I've set up my home office, and I am LOVING it! It suits me perfectly, and has become my very most favorite place in the house. The cats and dogs agree, and have already claimed their spots.

I still need to find the right chair (the one I'm using is from the porch), and a pair of lamps for the desk, and do something about the window - maybe sheer panels on each side. I'm going thrifting tomorrow, certain that the things I need are out there, waiting for me to find them.

So, hello, Universe? As you can see, I'm getting ready for all the awesomeness you're planning for me. Thanks in advance for thinking of me!

Shit picture; it's just to give you the lay of the land.
So, let's go clockwise around the room...

Cat toy on the cupboard door. Welcome to my world!
Happy dogs, 3 of 6

The crazy one.

I got the kitty pencil sharpener in Stromness, Orkney, Scotland last summer.
Even pictures of the things that make me smile, make me smile!
We found this piece in an alley 10 years ago, tied it to the top of my car and took it home.
After I painted/distressed it, it went into heavy rotation. I've used it to store my accessories,
as bathroom storage, and now as office storage.

Happiness runs in a circular motion...

Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans:

Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness.
That the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.
All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favour all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has Genius, Power and Magic in it.
Begin it now.

discover your world

A HUGE part of my Plan B involves me getting a job where I work from home. (I realize that the Universe may have other plans. However, until those plans are revealed to me, this is what I'm going with. It beats worrying.) I could probably manage with a file cabinet, my laptop, and the desk in the living room. I'd rather have a dedicated space, though, and since I have a room at my disposal, why not?

As a spin on "Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have," I'm going to decorate for the job I want (working from home), not for the one I have (None. Thanks again for that, btw...)

I prefer not can't really afford to spend any $ on this new office of mine, and besides, I have access to lots of usable pieces. Anyone recall my "well stocked" garage?

Here's what I need/want/envision, using what I have:
  • Large worktop for computer, files, papers, etc. (The "etc" is all the fun bits!)
  • Desk/table facing into room, not the wall.
  • Comfy chair
  • Interesting things on the walls to look at
  • File cabinet (I have one, vintage, original aqua paint. Yum.)
Have I mentioned that I have to share my office with 3 cats? Yeah, it's their room right now, including litter box, food, and climbing tree. They have to have a sanctuary from the dogs.

Here's a bunch I like; the top one is my favorite (and I have that table).

Thoughts, anyone?

the talent that has been entrusted

Have you seen this tumblr? It's called homewrk, and "is a collection of workspaces, art studios, craft rooms, offices and all the little beautiful things that fill them up."

I am a bona fide sucker for workspaces, craft rooms, offices and all the beautiful things that fill them up.

This is the mother lode, folks.

Here's an appetizer:
