a little candy now and then

I'm pretty sure winter isn't going to happen this year, so I'm ready for spring, and candy colors.

What about you? How's the weather in your world?

All I really need is love,
but a little candy now and then doesn't hurt!
- Charles Schultz

a part of our life

Alabaster, ivory, opal, pearl. Even the names for white are lovely.

I spent the week travelling for work, first to Chicago, then to Kansas City. After the first few days it turned cold, and the snow flurried, but to no avail. It blew across the streets like sugar, but didn't stick.

I think we won't get any proper snow this winter. No whipped cream drifts for the dogs to plow through like maniacs, no downy cloudbursts of feathery flakes, no crystalline silent woods to explore. I think I'll have to get my fix of white elsewhere this year.

The pure air and dazzling snow belong to things
beyond the reach of all personal feeling,
almost beyond the reach of life.
Yet such things are a part of our life,
neither the least noble nor the most terrible.
~ Frederick Soddy

the happiest color

'Tis the season...for orange!

the true harvest

Ahhhhh, the rainbow, that natural phenomenon that happens when white light is refracted through water droplets...

The symbol of the Christians' God's covenant with the world, somewhere over which Dorothy is sure everything is perfect, and at the end of which is a pot of gold guarded by a leprechaun.

The bridge between Heaven and Earth, over which beloved pets cross at the end of their lives, to wait for their humans on the other side.

The symbol of gay pride. (Wait, did I say gay? I meant Takei.)

When faced with a group of items of different colors, I will, whenever possible, arrange them in spectrum order - you know, good ol' ROY G BIV. As far back as I can remember it's always been inherently pleasing to see the colors in their natural order; it not only looks "right", it also feels right. Maybe that's because I'm Takei.

The true harvest of my daily life
is somewhat as intangible and indescribable
as the tints of morning or evening.
It is a little star dust caught,
a segment of the rainbow which I have clutched.
~Henry David Thoreau

p.s. Fuck you, Tennessee homophobes. Hang in there, Tennessee Takeis and supporters.

p.p.s. If you're reading this on or after Sunday, May 22, 2011, welcome to Hell on Earth.  Sorry 'bout your luck, missing the Rapture and all, but hey, at least you'll be amongst friends here, with the rest of us unworthy sinners (and 100% of the Takeis). If you've been hiding in the closet, hoping no one would know your secret, you may as well come on out now. And if you're one of the foul-mouthed homophobes (hahhaaaaa, that didn't get you a ride on the Rapture train after all, did it?!) who don't know when to "turn your filter on" (Thanks for that, Jenn!), all I can say is this: I know who you are, and what you said, and to whom. Your real day of reckoning is fast approaching.

how I want you green

We're emerging from the gray one color at a time. First, and fabulously, there is green. Green everywhere, glowing, growing, verdant. It's the only color there is right now, today.

What color is your world?

Green how I want you green. Green wind. Green branches.
~Federico García Lorca
