I Meant To Do My Work Today
by Richard LeGallienne
I meant to do my work today,
But a brown bird sang in the apple tree,
And a butterfly flitted across the field,
And all the leaves were calling me.
And the wind went sighing over the land,
Tossing the grasses to and fro,
And a rainbow held out its shining hand,
So what could I do but laugh and go?

after enlightenment

Laundry is a fact of life, but doing it need not be drudgery.

In this house the washer and dryer are in the basement, my least favorite place. On my wish list for the next house: a proper laundry room, with a window, storage, and easy-to-clean floors. A sink for hand washing, space to keep the ironing board set up, and room for the drying rack are on the list too. (A hanging dryer, like in Sylvia Brown's Hostel in Stromness, Orkney, Scotland would make me giddy with pleasure!) An outside door for easy access to a clothesline would be ideal.
