who lay claim to know us

We (finally, hopefully, maybe) have an interested buyer! He loves the house, but before he would even consider moving forward, he had one question: Is it haunted?

Actually he had two questions, the second one being: If it is haunted will you adjust the sale price so I can hire someone to clear it? Ummmm...

Well, it's not haunted, and since I've lived and worked in haunted places, I know the difference. But even if the answer to question number one was Yes the answer to question number two would still be No! Hire your own exorcist, mister.

I'm not afraid of ghosts, although I'll quickly admit that I've never encountered a bad one, other than the ones that haunt the dark corners of my mind. I'm not afraid of them, either; they're generally either annoying or pitiful. I exorcised the truly horrid ones years ago.

Now we're waiting for his buyer to come through, and when his house is under contract he can make an offer on ours. Then we can make a firm offer on River House. We're like dominoes, all of us, one thing leading to another...

"There are some upon this earth of yours," returned the Spirit, "who lay claim to know us, and who do their deeds of passion, pride, ill-will, hatred, envy, bigotry, and selfishness in our name, who are as strange to us and all out kith and kin, as if they had never lived. Remember that, and charge their goings on themselves, not us."  - A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens
