There's a definite chill in the air these days, and the leaves are beginning to show their crimson and gold colors, hidden all summer by chlorophyll.
I've a pumpkin on my porch alongside the mums, and tall, skinny Jack Skelly is keeping watch nearby. We don't get many trick-or-treaters in this neighborhood, and once we move to the country I doubt we'll have any at all. But Halloween is fun for lots of reasons that have nothing to do with children in costumes begging for candy while their parents stand on the sidewalk shouting instructions in etiquette training: "What do you say? Tell her Thank You!"

The leaves lay like hands upon the ground.
When the wind rustles them, they applaud softly.
