in it up to his neck

The coyotes are back. We haven't seen or heard them since last winter...until tonight. I took the dogs out, and Derby and Nadia took off for the adjoining field, as always. A minute later, I heard, from the direction of the field, a long, slow, oooOOOOOOOOOOOooooo. The hair on the back of my neck bristled, and I shouted the dogs back to me through the darkness. They'll be going out on leashes after dark until Spring.

I'm not complaining; it's not like we live in the city...we're in their territory. See:

A friend lives here (below) - right IN L'ville - and she saw a coyote in her backyard not long ago.

In the ongoing battle between man and all the rest of the natural world, I can honestly say it would be okay with me if we don't win.

But I still don't want a coyote to eat my dogs.

no inclination

So, remember when I was thinking about putting a desk in the chair/tree corner by the fireplace? Well, I was gifted a drafting table, and I'm going to try it there. It's leggy and open, which will be a nice counterpoint to all the heavy furnishings, it's right by a window, and will give me plenty of surface area to spread out my projects, I'm over balancing everything on my lap or the arm of the sofa.

I'd have moved the table into place this weekend, but it's still in the back of my car, which is still parked 1/4 mile away, at the bottom of the drive by the road. Snow, ya know...

I'll post photos when I get it all prettified. Until then, what do you think of the idea?
love the stool!

drink of the gods

We got our snow - at least 6 inches, thick and fluffy.

Meringue. Whipped cream. Marshmallow fluff.

It's hot chocolate weather.

one thing and one thing only

We're supposed to get another 6" of snow tomorrow. This will be 25 days of the past 50 that we've had snow. Twice as much as "normal." It's okay with me. I LOVE snow.

White, clean, quiet.

The snow itself is lonely or, if you prefer, self-sufficient.
There is no other time when the whole world seems composed
of one thing and one thing only.

In other news, yesterday was my 300th blog post and I didn't even notice. More important things to think about in this mind o'mine...
