THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING
We - humans - have got it all wrong. We're not superior. We're not so special. We don't have dominion over the planet and all its inhabitants - or rather, we shouldn't. We've underestimated our fellow travelers, and overestimated our importance in the grand scheme of things. We've got it all wrong.

from the top of the house
I love rooms at the top of the house...
photos by trine thorenson |
just about to go to sleep,
or you're just sort of,
you know, falling asleep...
and you think you're really falling,
so you catch yourself?
That ever happen to you? You're
not falling, just falling asleep.
There you go.
When I was a little girl,
I always wanted to fly.
From the top of the house.
At night, I'd close my eyes,
and imagine I was on the roof,
looking down at my parents
in their bed.
And then I'd jump off...
and I'd fly...
While everyone was sleeping,
I'd be soaring around,
looking through their windows,
flying...
and resting in the trees.
I always knew I could,
but I never told them.
Once someone knows,
they can make you fall.

Fling off thy sadness!
Spring is coming...
I feel it in the soft air, see it in the tiny greening buds, hear it in the raucous calls of returning geese as they lumber across the sky...
I'm ready.

Awake,
thou wintry earth -
Fling off
thy sadness!
Fair
vernal flowers, laugh forth
Your
ancient gladness!

that feelin'
This makes me happy. It reminds me that we humans are amazing, beautiful, complex creatures with the capacity for great joy for joy's sake.
My favorite bits? The dog at 2:03, and the little girl at 2:52 (!!!).
Don't stop believin'
Hold on to that feelin'
Hold on to that feelin'

sink in good oblivion
I'm sleepy, tired (those are two different things - think about it), and I have a headache.
I want to crawl into a soft bed in a dark room. The bed should be piled high with downy pillows, smooth sheets, and fluffy blankets. The window may be slightly cracked to let in the cold night air. The only light will be a bedside lamp, just enough to illuminate the book I'm reading. The dogs will sigh deep, contented sighs, and relax, warm and heavy at my feet. After a few pages, I'll close the book, lay it aside on the bed, and just manage to reach out to turn off the light before I slip into dreamless slumber...
And if tonight my soul may find her peace
in sleep, and sink in good oblivion,
and in the morning wake like a new-opened flower
then I have been dipped again in God, and new-created.

huge, vast, and limitless
Happy Valentine's Day, Loves!!
When you begin to touch your heart or let your heart be touched,
you begin to discover that it's bottomless, that it doesn't have any
resolution, that this heart is huge, vast, and limitless. You begin to discover
how much warmth and gentleness is there, as well as how much space.
